Mozambique extended its licensing round by three months according to Arsenio Mabote, chairman of the National Petroleum Institute. The 15 blocks put on offer in October and the licensing round was scheduled to originally close in mid-January, now that date has been extended to April 30.
According to Mabote, the extension is due to the high level of interest and requests by interested firms for additional time.
The 15 blocks on offer include three new areas of the northern Rovuma Basin, where significant natural gas reserves have already been discovered.
