Mozambique to See Oil Production in 2014

Wednesday, January 8, 2014

Mozambique is set to become an oil producing country this year when Sasol brings a small field online. The South African firm made a small oil discovery next to its Temane gas field, in the Inhambane province.

“The oil field is the first to produce oil commercially in Mozambique, where so far there have only been viable natural gas discoveries,” an Energy Intelligence report said. While production will only come in at around 2,000 bpd it will aid in allowing Mozambique to diversify its economy.

Sasol’s representatives have already said that oil reserve estimates may be increased, as exploration activities are already underway in the area.
