Nat Gas Expected to Take a Back Seat to Renewables

Friday, June 28, 2013

The International Energy Agency (IEA) believes that global electricity generation from renewable energy sources will increase to 25% by 2018 over the next five years – edging out natural gas as China and other developing countries continue to expand their renewable energy strategies.

The decreasing costs of renewable energy technologies will see renewables pass natural gas and be double the amount of nuclear energy in three years, according to the IEA. Developing countries outside the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) are expected to account for two-thirds of the global increase with Africa and Asia showing some of the strongest gains.
