While there have been reports of a one-month ceasefire agreement being reached between the Nigerian government and the Niger Delta’s latest militant threat, the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), the militant group says these reports are false.
The NDA has claimed responsibility for the host of attacks on oil and gas facilities over the past month or so that has caused Nigeria’s production to drop to lows it has not seen in decades.
NDA’s denial comes following a report that a one-month ceasefire had been agreed to last week after talks between Nigeria’s oil minister, community groups and governors in the Niger Delta.
“The NDA High Command never remember having any agreement on ceasefire with the Nigeria Government,” said the group on its Twitter feed.
