New Leadership for Eskom on the Horizon

Friday, August 1, 2014

A short-list has been created for those seriously being considered to be the newest head of South Africa’s state-owned utility, Eskom. The new CEO is expected to be appointed by mid-August after the departure of Brian Dames in March.

The utility is facing criticism as well as a financial crisis with executives previously estimating that Eskom needed a $55.9-million injection in addition to increased tariffs to cover operation costs. Eskom Financial Director Tsholofelo Molefe told parliamentarians that without an “additional source of liquidity”, the utility would be unable to continue operating.
