New Tanzanian Laws Could Lead to Contract Renegotiations

John Magufuli, Tanzania’s president, has signed three new bills affecting the petroleum and mining industries into law. The three bills were approved by parliament last week and they pave the way for the government to renegotiate petroleum and mining contracts.

“I would like to thank Parliament for making the legislative changes. I signed the bills into law the same day Parliament concluded its session on July 5,”Magufuli told a rally in the Chato district of northwestern Tanzania.
