Niger and Nigeria Agree on Border Refinery

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Emmanuel I. Kachikwu met with Niger’s president, Mahamadou Issoufou and the Energy Minister Foumakoye Gado, regarding the construction of a refinery in a border town.

According to media reports out of Nigeria, the parties reached a mutually beneficial agreement for the refinery in the border town between Niger and the Nigerian state of Katsina. The agreement also calls for an oil pipeline from Niger to the new refinery.

From this development a definitive bilateral and technical agreement on the refinery, is expected to be signed in the coming days.
