Nigeria Considers Approving Illegal Refineries

Monday, April 10, 2017

Nigeria saw the restart of its Warri refinery after a round of maintenance on the plant. The refinery is now operating at 60% of its installed capacity. Maintenance operations began in early-March because of power issues.

In other refining news, the government is considering legalizing the pop up refineries in the Niger Delta. The legalization of the illicit refineries is hoped to bring peace to the region.

A statement from Nigeria’s vice president’s office said, “Under the plan that is being developed, communities would come together working with their respective state governments, the federal government and private sector operators to work out a template for the establishment of modular refineries in the communities.”
