Nigerian Communities Take Shell to Court in UK

The lawsuit filed by a group of Nigerian farmers and fishermen in the Niger Delta in a UK court against Shell started on November 22. The suit claims spills by Shell in the Niger Delta have damaged the Niger Delta River.

Two Nigerian communities are suing Shell and its subsidiary in Nigeria for compensation for the damage in the amount of around £100 million.

The court will consider if claims can be heard in the UK.
