Nigeria’s current president Goodluck Jonathan and former president Olusegun Obasanjo were once political allies, but are now in a battle heating up in the media.
Jonathan accused Obasanjo of manipulating data, allegations that the former president has begun waging against the current administration in a December 2 open letter. The former president wrote to Jonathan accusing him of having failed in the country’s security situation, pointing to allegations that Jonathan’s administration was training snipers. However, Jonathan reminded Obasanjo that the sectarian clashes from the insurgency group, Boko Haram, began in 2002 during Obasanjo’s presidency. He also said that Obasanjo’s rule saw the first case of a ransom kidnapping. However, Jonathan didn’t stop there as he mentioned the Halliburton and Siemens scandals.
