Nine Dead in Coptic Church Attack

An attack at a Coptic Christian church south of Cairo, Egypt on December 29 left at least nine people dead. Two gunmen opened fire at the entrance to the church of Mar Mina in Helwan district.

The attack on the church took place during the run-up to Orthodox Christmas celebrations which are next week.

One of the gunmen was killed by security forces, state-run news agency MENA reported.  It also said the second gunmen had been captured. The Health Ministry said that in addition to the nine killed, besides the gunman, five others were wounded, including two women who were in serious condition.
