NNPC, Nigeria’s state-owned oil and gas firm, in a preemptive move against the Ebola virus, shut down its own clinic. The clinic was shut down after someone suspected of having the virus was admitted there.
NNPC’s clinic was the second facility that the potential virus carrier visited; he also visited the First Consultant Medical Center which was subsequently shut.
“In the meantime, all contacts with this case are being traced and adequate precautionary measures instituted to contain the possible spread of the disease,” NNPC spokesman Ohi Alegbe said in an emailed statement. He described it as a “pre-emptive step.”
A pandemic national emergency has been declared in Nigeria.
