The two Noble Corp. executives involved in a bribery scandal out of Nigeria have agreed to settle civil claims. The scandal revolved around claims that the two participated in a bribery scheme to obtain permits for oil rigs in Nigeria.
The agreement to settle came just days before the jury selection was set to begin against Mark Jackson, Noble’s former CEO and James Ruehlen, director of the oil and gas services company’s Nigerian subsidiary. The trial was called off by the judge in Houston pending a final settlement. The two men were sued under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which bans US companies from bribing foreign officials.
