NUPENG Orders Warri Members to Strike

Monday, September 1, 2014

NUPENG, one of Nigeria’s oil worker unions, called on its members to strike in protest to the dismissal of some of its members by Chevron. The call for the action against the industry was made by NUPENG’s senior assistant general secretary for the Warri Zonal Council, Otite Ohohwowho. The Union’s statement directed its members within the Warri Zonal Council to commence the strike and to ensure that it was strictly complied with.

According to NUPENG, Chevron has failed to honor and agreement reached in July that was brokered by Nigeria’s Ministry of Labor and Productivity.

“As a result of the refusal of Chevron Nigeria Limited Management to honour the communiqué of July 10th, 2014 issued at the instance of the Federal ministry of Labor and Productivity, Abuja, to resolve the industrial dispute between the union and Chevron management, the strike action that was earlier suspended is hereby resumed,” the statement from NUPENG read.
