Tap Oil Ltd. reported that it and its partners on Ghana’s Offshore Accra Contract Area have contracted a rig to drill the Starfish prospect. The partners contracted the Stena Drillmax to drill the Starfish-1 well.
Stena Drilling, operator of the rig, has extensive experience in Ghana and is providing this latest generation rig at competitive day rates in conjunction with an existing West African drilling program, thereby minimizing mobilization and demobilization charges for the Accra JV.
Starfish-1 is a wildcat well expected to spud in June 2013. The well will target a large, fan complex in the deep water of eastern Ghana, interpreted to be potentially comparable to the Jubilee field in western Ghana. Tap estimates that the well will target prospective resources potentially in the order of half a billion barrels.
Tap’s partners on Offshore Accra Contract Area are Ophir (20%, operator), Vitol (30%), Afex (20%), and Rialto (12.5%).
