Nigeria will see its oil tanker drivers go on strike on April 3, according to a labor union official. The oil tanker drivers belong to the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers or NUPENG.
The workers’ strike is in protest of low wages and poor roads. There is no date set to end the strike.
“Tanker drivers across the country will not work tomorrow so there is bound to be scarcity of petrol, diesel and kerosene,” said Cogent Ojobo, a regional chairman for NUPENG in a Reuters report. Ojobo added that petrol stations may later join the strike.
“They are protesting against the federal government because of poor remuneration, bad roads that wear out their vehicles fast and other matters,” he said.
