A fire on an oil platform operated by Italian major ENI off the coast of the Republic of Congo has left one dead and five injured.
“The situation is under control. The incident caused one death and five people were injured,” a government statement read.
The incident took place on December 1 on the Foukanda rig. A statement issued by ENI said the platform was immediately evacuated and the fire was quickly extinguished by emergency teams.
“Of the 45 persons on the platform, five reported slight burns, while one person, a crane operator employed by Afrimel, was missing at the time of the evacuation,” the ENI statement said. The missing worker was later found dead.
