Ophir Energy has two wells currently drilling, one on each side of the continent. In Gabon the company spud the Affanga Deep-1 well using the Vantage Titanium Explorer drillship. The well is targeting an extension to the proven Ogooué Delta play offshore Gabon with gross mean pre-drill recoverable resource estimates of 170 million barrels.
Ophir said that success would derisk several follow-on prospects which could be integrated into a hub development.
The well commenced operations on March 22 and has a planned TD of approximately 4,500 meter TVDSS. It is expected to take approximately 35 days to complete. On completion of the well, the rig will move to the Mbeli Block in Gabon to drill the Okala pre-salt prospect.
Across the continent in Tanzania Ophir is drilling the Taachui well on Block 1. The well is being drilled using the Deepsea Metro 1 drillship. The well commenced operations on March 24.
The prospect is on the north-west margin of the block and has a planned TD of around 4,050 meters TVDSS. The well is expected to take approximately 55 days to complete.
