Oryx Energies completed the acquisition of the LPG distribution businesses in South Africa of BP and Masana Petroleum Solutions in which BP had a 45% stake. The transaction was first announced in March of this year.
The acquisition gives Oryx Energies a leading position in the South African LPG market and strengthens its status as a key LPG player across Southern Africa. The company has been promoting LPG for 15 years as a cleaner, more affordable and ecological energy alternative to firewood, charcoal and kerosene, and is making significant investments in the sector across sub-Saharan Africa.
With this acquisition, 44 members of staff based in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, and Durban have become part of the Oryx Energies family, as employees of its local affiliate, Oryx Oil South Africa (Pty) Ltd.
The acquired businesses serve a nationwide network of industrial, commercial and domestic customers, representing over 60,000 tons of LPG per year. Oryx Energies looks forward to maintaining and developing the business, with the first-class quality of product and service that its customers have come to expect. The company aims to further expand the LPG market in South Africa to respond to the unmet needs of large parts of the country’s population, thereby contributing to the country’s energy transformation agenda.
