Partners Get More Time Offshore Accra

Thursday, August 8, 2013

Partners in Ghana on the Offshore Accra Contract Area: Ophir Energy, Rialto Energy, and Tap Oil have been granted an extension to the initial exploration period for the block located offshore Ghana. The initial exploration period now ends March 23 2014.

The six-month extension will give the JV partners additional time to undertake a thorough review of the data from the Starfish-1 well.

Drilling of the Starfish-1 well commenced mid-June and logs indicate that the primary and secondary targets were water-bearing sands. Tap considers there is possible evidence of residual oil in the primary and secondary targets which may provide support for an active petroleum system on the block.

The well was plugged and abandoned as planned on July 12. The operator, Ophir Energy, continues to work on the existing lead and prospect inventory.
