Nigerian oil worker union, Pengassan, is threatening to launch anationwide strike starting December 18. Prior to the launch of the strike the union’s leaders will meet with government officials to discuss their labor dispute.
The talks will take place without the unnamed firm at the center of the dispute being present. The dispute revolves around indigenous firms laying off union members.
Pengassan has asked the government to force the management of those companies to recall the workers. The union said the firms ordered “mass” layoffs but has not given figures, according to a Reuters report.
