Pertamina Eyes Mozambique LNG for Future Shortfalls

Monday, October 27, 2014

Indonesia’s state-run oil firm Pertamina plans to import LNG from Mozambique once the East African nation’s plant is up and running, which is expected to take place around 2018. Indonesia itself produces a significant amount of LNG but it is all tied up in long-term export contracts, making it hard to meet its domestic demands.

Imports from Mozambique could aid in covering shortfalls in domestic supplies after 2020. Indonesia’s domestic demand has been growing at a rate of around 5% per year while its production is stagnating and closing in on a decline.
