Power Out in Libya

Wednesday, September 19, 2018

Western and southern Libya are experiencing power outages, including in Tripoli, after fighting resumed between two rival groups. The fighting resulted in most of the power stations being knocked out according to state-run utility General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL).

GECOL reports that power supplies have gone down all the way from Tripoli to the western border with Tunisia, the western mountains region and southern Libya since Monday night.

In a statement the company said that a key power distributor was hit during the fighting in southern Tripoli where most of the clashes have taken place.
