On February 18 a Turkish-built floating power plant docked in Nacala port in Mozambique. The vessel will be supplying power to neighboring Zambia for the next two years as well as fortifying the electricity grid in northern Mozambique.
The vessel was contracted by Mozambican utility EDM, which will sell the power on to Zambia. The power from the ship will not actually be powering Zambia as EDM will use power generated by the country’s Cahora Bassa hydroelectric plant, while the powership’s supplies will replace the power from Cahora Bassa to Mozambique’s northern grid.
The powership is expected to be connected to the grid in around 10 days’ time.
