Rebel Group Dissolved in Central African Republic

Friday, September 20, 2013

The Seleka rebel group that seized power in late-March, forcing the president into hiding in Cameroon, was dissolved according to state radio broadcasts. The news said a decree by president Michel Djotodia declared that the group was disbanded “throughout the national territory.”

Seleka rebels took control of the capital city Bangui, overthrowing Francois Bozize whom later accused neighboring Chad of funding the group. Djotodia, a former Seleka leader, was sworn in as the country’s president in August.
