Algeria, in conjunction with its plans to raise its domestic production of refined oil products, is looking to become an exporter of refined products. The country’s Energy Minister, Salah Khebri, said Algeria plans to raise domestic production by 50% over the next eight years.
Output of refined oil products such as gasoline and diesel will increase by 15 million tons to 45 million when three new refineries start production in 2024, Khebri was quoted in a Reuters report.
“This development plan will enable us to meet local demand and export the surplus,” he told parliament, referring to the three new refineries to be built in Hassi Messaoud, Tiaret, and Biskra.
In March Sonatrach awarded Amec Foster Wheeler the FEED contract for the refineries The refineries will have a capacity of five million tons per annum. The facilities will also contain facilities for atmospheric distillation, LPG separation, hydrocrackers, desulphurization, bitumen production, utilities, blending, and effluents treatment, as well as a control room and laboratories.
