Algeria saw a new natural gas discovery recently in the IlliziBasin. The discovery, made by Repsol, was located on the Sud-Est Illizi block near its border with Libya.
The discovery was made with the drilling of the TGE-1 well. During drilling Repsol encountered a 50-meter column of natural gas and initial testing results show gas flows of 235,000 cubic meters of gas a day. The company made a previous discovery on the block, the THIS-1 well, in November 2012.
The latest discovery could make a large-scale gas project on the block more feasible.
