The Republic of Congo is set to see a resurgence in its crude production. Added production is expected to come online as soon as next year, according to analysts in a Reuters report.
New projects scheduled to come onstream could boost output by 25% to 350,000 bpd, which if happens would make it the third-largest producer in sub-Saharan Africa behind Angola and Nigeria.
“Congo is bucking the trend,” Jean-Baptiste Bouzard, a sub-Saharan oil analyst at Wood Mackenzie was quoted as saying in a Reuters report.
One of the projects that will boost the ROC’s production is the ENI-operated Nene Marine oil field. The Nene Marine discovery is set to come onstream by the end of 2017, and if ENI’s recent track record of achieving first oil ahead of schedule is anything to go by the ROC could see those flows even sooner.
The Nene Marine will produce 20,000 boepd, but according to ENI, it has the potential to reach 150,000 boepd in the coming years. There is also the Moho Nord operated by Total, which has yet to hit peak production of 100,000 bpd, as well as the Banga Kayo Field that will add 50,000 bpd in late-2017 or early-2018.
