Friday, August 14, 2009

Russia’s Ruscorp has entered into a MOU with Nigeria’s state-owned oil and gas firm NNPC for the expansion and upkeep of the West African country’s pipeline infrastructure. Under the agreement, Ruscorp’s Integrated Services unit will monitor and maintain the existing 6,000 km of oil and gas pipeline infrastructure in the country.

Due to constant attacks by militants an oil thieves tapping into the pipelines, Nigeria’s network is in sorry shape.

Ruscorp in addition to repairing and maintaining Nigeria’s present oil transportation network, the Russian firm will also construct new pipelines to extend the system.

Petroleum Minister Rilwanu Lukman said the MOU would enhance the integrity and monitoring of the Nigerian oil transportation network.

“The overall benefits to Nigeria will include a drastic reduction in the environmental damage that occurs during oil transportation,” said Aleksey Danilyants, Ruscorp’s vice-chairman.
