RWE Dea completed three appraisal wells in Egypt between March and May. The wells were drilled to derisk reserves and reduce the uncertainties of the late Miocene Abu Madi reservoirs prior to production.
The wells were drilled on the Sidi Salem SE-1 and Sidi Salem SE-2 gas fields, approximately 20 km south west from the Disouq Central Treatment Plant (CTP) on the North Sidi Ghazy Field.
The first appraisal well SSSE-2-3, was drilled to test the north-eastern extension of the field in a down-dip location of the SSSE-2x discovery well. The well encountered gas at 2,647 meters, some 33 meters deeper than seen in the SSSE-2x well.
The second appraisal well SSSE-2-2, targeted the northern field extension and encountered gas at 2,632 meters. RWE said that the occurrence of gas at these progressively down-dip well locations is suggestive that a field-wide intra-formational bottom is part of the trapping mechanism in the Sidi Salem SE-2 Field.
The third well SSSE-1-2, was drilled successfully on a separate SSSE-1 structure 1.5 km east of the discovery.
Richard Vaughan, Disouq Subsurface Project Head commented: “We are very encouraged by the overall results of the recent appraisal wells. All SSSE wells have been completed and temporarily suspended as gas producers. Perforations will be added as part of a rig-less campaign later in 2014/15.”
The Weatherford 94 Rig is now drilling the final Phase B Disouq Development well namely, Disouq-1-3. The well is targeting multiple reservoirs levels of Pliocene and Late Miocene age in an adjacent structural compartment to the east of the main Disouq Field some 30 km from the Disouq CTP. Results from the near-field exploration well Disouq-1-3 are expected this month.
In addition to the drilling of the three appraisal wells the company reported that it has received internal approval to drill a further three near-field exploitation wells in the Disouq Development Lease.
“The addition of these wells show RWE’s continuing commitment to add reserves to its Disouq Development Project,” explained, RWE Dea Egypt’s GM Maximilian Fellner. He went on to comment that “through our partnership with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company we want to boost the gas production beyond the currently planned production target of 100 Mmcf/d to meet the ever-growing energy demands of Egypt.”
This next phase of drilling, which targets again the Late Miocene Abu Madi Formation, will follow on immediately after the completion of the Disouq-1-3 well.
