Companies who have been waiting patiently for South Africa to process their applications for shale gas exploration could be rewarded for that patience soon. According to reports from South Africa’s Petroleum Agency (PASA), recommendations on the first two of five shale gas exploration license applications are expected by early-May.
The first two firms that will receive recommendations are Falcon Energy and Bundu Oil & Gas Exploration, a subsidiary of Challenger Energy. Exploration is expected to start in the next financial year.
PASA is also considering applications from Shell and two other companies. Once recommendations have been made it will be down to the Ministry to make a final decision on granting licenses.
