US President Donald Trump has been called on by the Nigerian civil society group, Socio-Economic Rights Accountability Project (SERAP), to release funds hidden away in the US by Nigeria’s former military dictator, Sani Abacha.
SERAP says the request to release funds is in line with the UN Convention Against Corruption, which was approved by both countries. SERAP in the open letter signed by its US Volunteer Counsel, Alexander Sierck, urge Trump to initiate talks with Nigeria and set a timeline for the return of the money.
