SFF Submits RFP for Studies on South Sudanese Refinery

Monday, August 5, 2019

Strategic Fuel Fund (SFF), a subsidiary of South Africa’s Central Energy Fund, submitted a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a service provider to conduct a pre-feasibility and feasibility study for an oil refinery project in South Sudan.

South Sudan’s Minister of Petroleum, Awow Daniel Chuang, highlighted the need to develop the country’ refining sector in South Sudan. He went on to stress the importance of international investors in its refining sector.

“We have one small refinery which is not enough for the entire consumption in the country,” Chuang said.

The RFP follows the signing of an EPSA with the government in May for Block B2. SFF will operate the block together with South Sudan’s state-run oil firm, Nilepet, and includes a six-year exploration period.
