Shell has pulled more workers out of its facilities offshore Nigeria. The company has now evacuated workers from the Bonga oil field following a militant threat, according to a NUPENG official.
NUPENG is one of Nigeria’s oil and gas workers labor unions.
The evacuation of the Bonga field follows the evacuation of workers from Shell’s Eja field. Shell said earlier in the week that oil output was continuing despite reports of a militant attack near its Bonga facilities.
“Our operations at Bonga are continuing,” a spokesman for Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) said in a statement. It said it would continue to monitor the security situation in its operating areas and take all possible steps to ensure the safety of staff and contractors.
In early May Chevron’s Ofan facilities offshore Escravos were attacked, causing a shut in of production. The Niger Delta Avengers militants claimed responsibility for the attack on the Chevron platform.
