Shell Evacuates Non-Essential Staff from Nigerian Field

Tuesday, May 10, 2016

Following the recent attach on the Chevron facility off Nigeria’s Niger Delta coast, Royal Dutch Shell has reportedly evacuated non-essential staff from its Eja oil field.

“We continue to monitor the security situation in our operating areas in the Niger Delta and are taking all possible steps to ensure the safety of staff and contractors,” a spokesperson for Shell’s Nigerian subsidiary was quoted in a Wall Street Journal report. The company declined to go into further detail, but said operations are continuing.

Last week the Niger Delta Avengers terror group took credit for the attack on Chevron’s Ofan facility, shutting in production and further reducing Nigeria’s production totals.
