Shell has received a notice of a request for indictment related to a 2011 settlement of longstanding disputes over OPL 245 offshore Nigeria.
In a statement the company said that the tribunal of Milan has fixed the preliminary hearing for April 20.
“We don’t believe a request for indictment is justified and we are confident that this will be determined in the next stages of the proceedings. We continue to take this matter seriously and co-operate with the authorities,” the Shell statement said.
Stakes held in OPL 245 by Shell and ENI are under temporary forfeiture and the two have appealed to the Nigerian court to lift the forfeiture.
