Shell Sees New Force Majeure in Nigeria

Friday, August 28, 2015

Shell in Nigeria has declared another force majeure, the latest is on Bonny Light crude oil exports. The force majeure follows the shutting down of two of the company’s key pipelines due to a leak and theft.

The company shut in its Trans Niger Pipeline and the Nembe Creek Trunkline, its two biggest onshore pipelines in the West African country. Both pipelines carry Shell’s production to vessels for export.

A leak was reported on the Trans Niger Pipeline at Oloma in Rivers State, which has the capacity to carry around 180,000 bpd of crude oil. SPDC closed the Nembe Creek Trunkline to remove crude theft points, it said in a statement.
