Shell reported that in 2017 the amount of crude stolen from pipelines in Nigeria increased by 50%. Crude losses from theft totaled 9,000 bpd, up from 2016’s 6,000 bpd.
This situation also explains the development of illegal oil refineries in the Niger Delta region, the country’s main production area.
Shell, which is one of the largest oil producers in the country, is one of the biggest victims of oil theft in Nigeria.
