Shifting Gears from the MidEast to Africa

Wednesday, August 20, 2014

The instability throughout the Middle East is seeing more investors – particularly in the hydrocarbon sector – arrive in Africa. According to the BP Statistical Review of World Energy, the Gulf and Arab Peninsula accounted for nearly 33% of global oil production and 17% of the gas output. Those numbers reveal a three-year stagnation after years of growth.

Although the Middle East nations still retain a great deal of investment and operations, there has been a significant shift in companies venturing into other places like countries in Africa. Technological advancements including horizontal drilling, hydraulic fracturing, seismic surveying, and deepwater drilling, have allowed the sector to grow and venture into semi-unchartered territories.
