China’s Sinopec Group has launched its development of the Akondo oil field in Gabon. The development includes the construction of a 200,000-ton crude processing plant and a pipeline.
Sinopec International Petroleum Exploration & Production Company (SIPC), a unit of Sinopec Group, started exploration at the Akondo oilfield in 2005 and now has entered the commercial development stage with exclusive development rights granted by the government, Sinopec said in a report.
An engineering unit of Sinopec will build the crude processing plant and a 59-km pipeline for the Akondo field, which is about 45 kms northeast of Port Gentil, the second-largest city of the former French colony.
