Siu Residents Greenlight Zarara’s Drilling Plans

Monday, May 15, 2017

The subsidiary of Midway Resources International (MRI) , Zarara Oil and Gas, has received the greenlight from local residents in Kenya to move forward with their exploration program. MRI, through Zarara Oil & Gas, holds a 75% working interest and operatorship in the PSCs for Blocks L4 and L13.

Zarara is planning to begin drilling in the Siu area to test its potential for oil and gas. Residents in the area endorsed the company’s plans to begin drilling at a stakeholders meeting. According to reports all residents said that they were on board because the company followed all rules for protecting the environment and the people.

While most were onboard there were some concerns expressed over compensation for those who will be displaced from land earmarked for drilling. Zarara said it requires 20 acres for the site but a 50-acre has been identified in Siyu.

Other residents wanted to know the share of revenue the community will get once the project begins. Zarara will sign a MoU ensuring that the community gets its stake.
