Six New Discoveries for Sonatrach

Thursday, April 13, 2023

Algeria’s state-owned energy firm Sonatrach announced that it has made six new hydrocarbon discoveries in the Amguid Messaoud, Berkine, Illizi, and Oued Mya basins.

Sonatrach states that both oil and gas were found in the Amguid Messaoud Basin with the BRM-1 well flowing nearly 5,700 barrels of oil per day (bopd) and 6.02 million cubic feet per day (Mmcf/d) of gas. The BMD-1 well tested at 4,856 bopd and 9.04 Mmcf/d of gas.

From the Illizi basin, the KARS-3 exploration well flow tested at 11.9 Mmcf/d of gas and 1,504 bpd of condensate.

In the Berkine Basin, Sonatrach reports oil and gas discoveries, with the HAM-1bis probe flowing 4.56 Mmcf/d of gas and 239 bpd of condensate from one reservoir and 4.86 Mmcf/d of gas and 1,905 bopd from a second reservoir. The SAISW-1 yielded test rates of 3,117 bopd and 7.75 Mmcf/d of gas.

Testing of the LGL-2 in the Oued Mya Basin showed flow rates of 453 bopd and 5.94 Mmcf/d of gas.

“These results confirm the significant oil and gas potential of the Touggourt region, located east of the Hassi Messaoud field,” Sonatrach said in a statement.
