Skikda Offline for Maintenance

Thursday, February 5, 2015

Algeria’s budget is going to be stretched even further with the shutdown of one of its revenue generating facilities. The country saw its Skikda LNG plant shut down for maintenance that could take up to two months, eliminating LNG exports from the plant in the process.

A source from Sonatrach was quoted in a Reuters report as saying that bad weather and rough seas had also partially shut down exports from the plant in northern Algeria, which supplies gas to European countries.

“The oil port is closed for bad weather, but also because the 4.7 million tons-per-year LNG unit has been shut down for maintenance, which started about two weeks ago, and it will last two months,” the Sonatrach source said.

Some Skikda cargos had been canceled or deferred, with the next cargo not due to be exported until around February 20.
