Some Workers Return to In Amenas

Wednesday, February 12, 2014

Both BP and Statoil have begun to return some of their staff members to the In Amenas gas plant in the Algerian desert, just a little over one year after the attack on the facility. The attack at In Amenas left 40 workers dead, most were foreign.

While some staff members have returned, for the companies to have a full contingent of staff, more security arrangements would have to be completed before either firm allows expatriates to be sent back to the gas facility.

“We do have some people back at In Salah but not at In Amenas. We are still trying to finalize the security arrangements that will be in place … but it’s all moving in the right direction,” said BP spokesman Robert Wine in a Reuters report.
