Sonatrach Announces Three Discoveries

Tuesday, July 26, 2022

Sonatrach announced that it has made three discoveries, including two gas discoveries made solely by its team and an additional oil discovery in partnership with Eni. The first is a discovery of condensate gas made in two Devonian reservoirs, following the drilling by Sonatrach of an exploration well in Ekker Sud West-1 (IEKSW-1) in the In Amenas 2 research perimeter of the Illizi Basin.

The flow rates recorded during the IEKSW-1 tests are 300,000 m3 /day of gas and 26 m3 /day of condensate, from the first tank and 213,000 m3 /day of gas and 17 m3 /day of condensate from the secod tank.

The second discovery was made by Sonatrach and its partner Eni following the drilling of the Rhourde Oulad Djemaa Ouest-1 (RODW-1) exploration well in the Sif Fatima 2 research perimeter located in the northern region of the Basin near Berkine.

The RODW-1 well, the third in the current exploration drilling campaign in the said region, revealed a discovery of crude oil in the sandstones of the Trias Argileux Argileux Inferieur (TAGI) reservoir of the Triassic formation.

During the production test, the well yielded 1,300 bpd oil and 51,000 m3 /day of associated gas.

The commissioning of these two discoveries will be done through rapid “fast-track” development, given their proximity to the existing facilities of OHANET and Rhourde Oulad Djemaa (ROD).

A third positive result was recorded by Sonatrach during the drilling of a Tamzaia-3 (TAMZ-3) delineation well on the Taghit research perimeter of the Bechar Basin , where an interesting gas production was obtained. during the Siegenian (Lower Devonian) reservoir formation test.

This result thus highlights a gas potential in this previously untested reservoir in a region considered to be an emerging domain.
