Sonatrach Chief Calls for Changes to Oil Laws

Thursday, September 21, 2017

Abdelmoumen Ould Kaddour, CEO of Algeria’s Sonatrach, while speaking to reporters said that the government needed to change the laws governing the oil and gas industry. Kaddour said the changes were needed to bring investment back to its energy sector.

“We are talking to the government to make it more attractive for investment, I understand that taxes, and exploration legal framework, need to be changed,” he told reporters. He went on to reveal that ENI and Total were in negotiations with the government over large projects, including in field output optimization, petrochemicals, and solar energy at oil and gas fields.

“I want a strategy for Sonatrach, it never had a strategy before. I will publish shortly what I call Sonatrach 2030, a plan that will show the way for the next decade,” the Sonatrach chief said.
