Sonatrach Commemorates the 10th Anniversary of the Tragic Events at Tiguentourine

Algerian state firm Sonatrach held a ceremony commemorating the 10th anniversary of the January 2013 attack on the Tiguentourine gas plant. The attack by al Qaeda militants resulted in 40 domestic nationals and foreigners being killed, and others kidnapped 

General of the Army Saïd Chanegriha and the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, led the ceremonies. Sonatrach CEO Toufik Hakkar delivered the welcome speech in which he bowed to the souls that were lost in the tragic incident. Minister Arkab praised the People’s National Army for their bravery in later defeating the terrorist group in Algeria.

In his speech, Chanegriha highlighted the vigilance and determination of the personnel of the People’s National Army during this operation carried out with exceptional promptness and precision which led to the elimination of elements of this terrorist group.

This occasion was also an opportunity to supervise a ceremony of distinction in honor of some families of the Algerian and foreign victims, where a special tribute was paid to the family of Chahid Lahmar Mohamed Lamine, who fell in the field of honor during these events.

The ceremonies ended with the participation of all the guests in a tree planting operation at the base of the Tiguentourine gas complex.
