Sonatrach is moving forward with plans to increase refining capacity in the country and toward that end has engaged Tecnicas Reunidas and Amec Foster Wheeler to undertake studies for two new refineries.
The state-run firm’s CEO, Amin Mazouzo, at a press conference said that the first plant would process 4.6 million tons of fuel oil and four million tons of naphtha for yearly output of 3.2 million tons of diesel and 3.5 million tons of gasoline. The first refinery under consideration would be located in Skikda.
The second plant, to be located in Arzew, would produce 75,000 tons per year of methanol and 150,000 tons per year of butane.
Tecnicas Reunidas is undertaking the Skikda project study and Amec Foster Wheeler the project in Arzew.
The cost of the two studies was put at about €25 million.
