Sonatrach Looks to Maximize Output

Mature field are set to play a big role in Algeria’s oil and gas sector in 2016. Sonatrach VP, Salah Mekmouche told a local paper that the company will focus on maximizing its output at its mature fields. Mekmouche told local El Khabar newspaper the company would focus next year on developing more from older fields like Hassi Massoud, Hasi Berkine, and Illizi southwest and east.

Mature fields are not the only way the state-run firm is looking at to maximize output, Sonatrach is also looking for partners who possess the needed technology to launch exploration offshore the country.

The company will also resume exploration outside its borders in 2016, including operations in Niger where it has halted activities in 2014 after the expiration of a PSC. He said Sonatrach is also ready to carry out operations in countries such as Mozambique, Ghana, South Africa, and Egypt.
