Sonatrach, Algeria’s state-owned oil and gas firm has been busy this year on the exploration end according to the company’s CEO, Said Sahnoun. The company made “extremely high-quality” oil discoveries and one gas discovery since the start of this year Sahnoun was cited as saying by state news agency APS.
“Work in 2015 has led to three finds by Sonatrach acting by itself,” Sahnoun said.
The first oil discovery was in the Touggourt region, while the second was in Ghardaia. The gas find was at El Bayad. Sahnoun said the company was now carrying out an evaluation of the discoveries, and is planning appraisal drilling “in the very short term.”
In 2014 Algeria saw 30 discoveries made, 29 by Sonatrach and one by international partners.
